NET-ZERO STRATEGY

Guiding our clients towards a net-zero future

As part of the UK’s commitment to international climate goals, a target has been set for the UK to reach net zero by 2050 – which means the greenhouse gas emissions produced by the UK would be equal or less than the amount we remove.

Meeting this target requires every organisation, of every size and sector, to play its part. But knowing where to start can seem overwhelming. Commercial’s expert team will work with you to design a tailormade plan to transition towards decarbonisation and support you as you implement changes that will benefit people, planet and profit.

Experienced partners

Sustainability runs through the heart of Commercial, in every service we provide. We’re totally committed to sharing this expertise, working in partnership with our clients.

First-hand experience

Having begun our own sustainability journey back in 2006, we’ve been learning and innovating ever since. Continuing to push boundaries for ourselves, we’ve committed to reach net zero by 2028.

Connected expertise

Not only can our ESG consultants support your strategies, from carbon footprinting to sustainable supply chains, we can help to implement your plans from EV charging to energy storage or greywater harvesting.

Tailormade plans

We’ll get to know your organisation, identifying potential risks and opportunities. Understanding the feasibility and impact of different options, we’ll develop a roadmap for achieving net-zero emissions, in line with the latest climate science.

Complexities clarified

For most organisations, developing their net-zero strategy is a new exercise. While there are many opportunities to be gained, there are some challenges to overcome too.

Lack of understanding and knowledge
Clients may lack a clear understanding of what a net-zero strategy entails and how it can be implemented. Commercial’s team will guide you towards the actions, methodologies, and products that will help you to develop a cohesive and effective strategy.
Complexity of Net-Zero
Achieving net-zero emissions requires a multi-faceted approach that encompasses multiple aspects of an organisation’s operations. This can make it challenging to develop a comprehensive strategy that addresses all relevant areas while balancing different priorities and constraints.
Availability of expertise
This is a relatively new area of business planning. As the demand for net-zero solutions grows, the pool of experts may be limited, making it challenging for clients to find the right consultant or product to meet their needs.
Investment capacity
Implementing a net-zero strategy may require significant investments in technology, infrastructure, and talent. Clients may face financial constraints that limit their ability to implement a comprehensive strategy. Our consultants can help you to prioritise areas for investment that will provide a return.
Regulatory uncertainty
As governments and sector bodies develop and implement new regulations and policies related to climate change and carbon emissions, clients may face regulatory uncertainty. We’ll keep you up to date on what it takes to develop a net-zero strategy that is compliant and effective.

HOW YOU BENEFIT

Good for the planet, good for your business

Embarking upon a net-zero strategy requires detailed and rigorous analysis to calculate where you are and what’s needed to reach net zero. But your net-zero strategy is about so much more than maths.

Reputation
Having a net-zero strategy is a sign that you’re a socially responsible and environmentally conscious organisation. This can enhance your brand value, improve your reputation and attract more customers and investors who value sustainability.
Engagement
Communicating your sustainability strategy to your stakeholders, particularly your staff, helps to create a culture of sustainability, enhancing engagement, staff wellbeing and encouraging them to take sustainability into their home lives.
Leadership
The global focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions has led to an increasing demand for net-zero solutions across industries. By developing a net-zero strategy early, you’ll be seen as industry leaders and benefit from a competitive advantage.
Compliance
Many authorities and regulatory bodies are introducing laws and regulations that require businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and adopt more sustainable practices. Commercial can help you stay compliant, avoiding potential penalties and reputational damage.
Costs
While putting in place new low carbon solutions often requires some upfront investment, ultimately reducing carbon will reduce waste and save you money. Creating a point of difference may even present revenue generating USPs.

Commercial deliver. We are fortunate to work with some amazing partners. Here are some examples of great things we hear every day.

The Tesco procurement team have been delighted with the way Commercial share our desire to entrench sustainability into our supply chain – we really are kindred spirits. Our ethical and sustainability policies are of paramount importance to our reputation and the Commercial team reviewed and approved all products in a short timeframe. Commercial are already committed to the ETI base code and are working on achieving EcoVadis accreditation for all suppliers on the Tesco account.
The new Walsall Housing Group office is a fantastic, fresh and modern workplace thanks to the wonderful work of the Commercial interiors team. They created a steering group to work alongside us to understand our demands and held regular meetings during the design process to keep us informed of the progress. Our desire was for a more collaborative space, with meeting booths and one-to-one seating, rather than traditional desks – and they delivered a fantastic final fit-out over the full four-floor building.
Each year, Commercial supplies accessory packs to graduate trainees at a leading accountancy firm, which are then picked, packed, and delivered to their home addresses by the Commercial Foundation. This not only guarantees that every new employee has the necessary equipment to be productive from their first day but also allows their IT team to focus on other responsibilities. Collaborating with the Commercial Foundation generates substantial social value returns on investment for the firm and contributes to improving the lives of the Foundation's volunteers.
Wollens have enjoyed a long-standing and fruitful partnership with Commercial because they are always introducing innovations and improvements to our IT environment. As the threat of cyber-attacks increases it was vital that we strengthened our capabilities for dealing with a ransomware attack with a cloud-based backup solution. Our solution means data cannot be altered or deleted, giving us a crucial way of recovering data to minimise any potential downtime and financial losses
Working with Commercial for our branded materials has proved to be effective and collaborative. The team is efficient and they listen to requests for improvements. Commercial has made branded goods simple.
As E-commerce in retail continues to grow, Commercial’s stock-management and fulfilment expertise has allowed a leading UK retailer to free huge amounts of warehouse space. Commercial took on the stocking of our employee uniform, transferring to a new supplier with the management of the supply being consolidated into their existing supply accounts. Not only did this free vital space in their distribution centre, the consolidated supply of all GNFR delivered significant delivery cost savings.
At JoJo Maman Bébé we are happy to work with the Commercial Foundation and support inspiring work they do to help disadvantaged young adults. Like us, the Foundation are a B Corp certified organisation that is proven to put purpose ahead of profits. We have enjoyed working with their volunteers to help with a mug-making activity. We are now working alongside them to create an introduction gift for our new employees, these include printed mugs, pens and notebooks.

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS

The future of decarbonisation starts now

All roads lead to net zero. The UK government’s 2050 target is written into law; many other countries are enacting their own climate strategies; citizens at home and abroad are more informed, both as consumers and employees. This forward momentum is only set to get stronger.

Competitive advantage
Taking the lead in developing net-zero strategies can support an organisation’s position as a market leader, or market challenger. Taking action – which begins with a clear strategy – can be viewed as an act of leadership, attracting like-minded partners and customers, creating competitive advantage.
Advances in technology
The pace of technological innovation in renewable energy, energy storage, and carbon capture and storage is accelerating, making net-zero solutions more accessible and cost-effective. Clients that stay abreast of these advancements can identify opportunities to optimise their net-zero strategy and reduce their carbon footprint.
Proactive gains
Governments around the world are increasingly implementing policies and regulations that incentivise or mandate net-zero emissions. Clients that are proactive in complying with these policies and regulations can reduce risks associated with non-compliance and capitalise on opportunities for green investments.
