Commercial showcase how data offers real Scope for Change

24th October 2024 | News

Business Transformation Specialists host supplier seminar and awards

The increasingly important role data plays in driving down Scope 3 emissions was the key focus of Commercial’s Scope for Change Supplier Day this month.

The Business Transformation Specialists welcomed key suppliers, partners and clients to a one-day event at the Leonardo Hotel in Cheltenham on Thursday, 24 October.

Invited guests heard from members of Commercial’s newly-created Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) Team. They shared their exciting plans for the future. With Commercial determined to hit their Net Zero 2028 Target, the event showcased how the entire value chain is absorbed into that ambition.

We can’t be sustainable without a sustainable supply chain.

Simone Hindmarch

Managing Director, Commercial

Why the day was so important

Commercial Co-founder and Managing Director Simone Hindmarch said: “To be able to get all the key people from our value chain into one room is a fantastic opportunity. We shared stories, experiences and strategies for the coming years.

“Scope for Change gave our new SRM Team the opportunity to show how we are now using quality data to calculate and then deliver significant Scope 3 savings in our value chain.

“From the start of our sustainability journey we’ve always looked to be open and inclusive with our peers. It is by working together, that we will create the biggest impact.”

Key to the data-driven approach is Commercial’s move to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol’s ‘Average-Based Methodology’. This involved creating individual, per-item, Scope 3 emissions for their product range.

An exhaustive back-office research project has seen the Commercial team itemise thousands of product lines.  This enables Commercial to pass accurate data on to clients and suppliers.

Keynote speakers

As well as Simone Hindmarch, delegates heard from Commercial’s Finance Director Dean Chester, Director of Supply Chain Management Andrew Stacey and SRM Specialist Sam Shakespeare.

Head of Green and Smart Technology Marc Cavendish and Energy Consultant Billy Friar also showcased the huge impacts a Commercial Green Audit can achieve for clients.

Guest speaker Andrew Brown from TS Synnex provided insights on his organisation’s Scope 3 journey. His presentation also included their EcoVadis commitment and relationship with Commercial.

Commercial also presented a number of Scope for Change Awards, to the top suppliers in their network.
