Commercial and Moor House School: Inspirational Spaces for Extraordinary Students
Business transformation specialists Commercial have partnered with Moor House School & College in Surrey to deliver a series of transformative refurbishments that are helping students with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) thrive.
Moor House is a registered charity supporting children and young people aged 7–19 with complex language needs. Recognising the vital role environments play in student wellbeing and learning, the school turned to Commercial to help reimagine key areas of its campus.
What began with a follow-up call after an ISBA event has grown into a trusted partnership. Over the past year, Commercial has completed high-impact projects including a new Learning Zone, Media Room, Support Teachers’ Office, Changing Rooms, Student Hub, and a redesigned Dining Room.
“Our goal was to create calm, inclusive spaces that reflect the unique needs of Moor House students,” said Simone Hindmarch, Co-founder and Managing Director of Commercial. “Every design decision, from layout to lighting, was shaped by empathy and insight.”
One major improvement was the transformation of the dining area. The space is now split into two zones to reduce sensory overload and better accommodate a wide age range. Staff have already noted a more relaxed, positive mealtime experience.
What’s on the horizon
Looking ahead, Commercial is set to deliver more upgrades, including changing room renovations, and sustainability initiatives such as voltage optimisation, solar panels and EV charging.
Commercial has also sponsored “COGS”, a new interactive feature in the school’s outdoor sensory play area. The play area will carry a plaque recognising the company’s contribution and lasting commitment.
Dale Whitford, Estates Manager at Moor House School & College, said of the dining area in particular: “The space has really become a flagship for the school, and this is really the standard that we should be setting for every other refurbishment project we do throughout the school.
“Commercial have far exceeded everybody’s expectations.”
