Commercial are transforming the traditional at Gloucester Rugby

A digital revolution is taking place at one of the country’s most famous old sports stadiums thanks to the work of Commercial’s smart technology team.

State of the art video screens – and more importantly the technology to make maximum use of them – are being installed at the iconic Kingsholm ground, home to Gloucester Rugby.

It is the first stage of a digitisation project that would turn a ground first used in 1891 into one fit for the modern and digital age.

Working in partnership with LED Studio, Commercial have designed, constructed and delivered the first phase of the project in time for the new Premiership Season.

“This is an exciting project with the potential to develop into a transformational digital offering for Gloucester Rugby,” said Commercial’s Head of Smart Technology Marc Cavendish.

“The content management system we have installed will offer the club the chance to tailor their video and advertising content. This will offer maximum value to both partners and supporters.

“We worked with our partners at LED Studio on a system bespoke to Gloucester Rugby’s needs.

“The solution we have delivered will really enhance the matchday experience.”

Kickstarting a digital revolution

As part of the first phase, two new bigger, brighter state-of-the-art LED screens have been installed. The screens are located in prime positions to relay live match action, and advertising content to supporters.

A third screen will soon be in place above the infamous Shed terrace. This will ensure that every set of eyes in the 17,000 capacity stadium will have a crystal-clear view of the screens.

And the plans don’t stop there, with the Commercial team working on solutions to provide the same content mix to smaller screens. These will be placed around the stadium and in corporate boxes too.

Digital advertising ribbons are also on the agenda to replace existing static hoardings. These ribbons will be linked to a content management gantry, which Commercial have installed.

Amelia Gray, General Manager at Gloucester Rugby said: “Commercial and LED Studio have provided us with a fantastic solution that improves our content for supporters and our commercial partners.

“We are only at the start of our digital journey. We are really excited about the opportunities and innovations that are being showcased to us.

“Kingsholm is one of the oldest, most traditional stadiums in the country. It is really exciting to see the first stage of this digital journey.”
