Commercial Help Hospiscare Save Energy and Cut Carbon with Voltage Optimisation Technology

8th June 2026 | ESG Consultancy

Hospiscare has partnered with Commercial to install a voltage optimisation system at Searle House in Exeter. The system is helping the charity reduce energy consumption, lower costs, and cut carbon emissions as part of its ongoing sustainability strategy.

The new system, installed by Commercial’s Green Tech team, optimises the site’s incoming electricity supply to 220 volts. This ensures equipment runs more efficiently and reduces wasted energy. Based on survey data and monitored performance, the installation guarantees a 7.1% reduction in electricity consumption. This equates to annual savings of 2.3 tonnes of CO₂e and a 30-year lifetime saving of 68 tonnes.

“This project is a brilliant example of how simple efficiency measures can make a big difference,” said Simone Hindmarch, Co-founder and Managing Director at Commercial.

“For an organisation like Hospiscare, every saving helps sustain the vital care they provide, while supporting the planet and the community at the same time.”

The installation is expected to deliver an estimated £120,168 in energy cost savings over 30 years. The expected payback period is just 43 months alongside a positive monthly cash flow from year one. Hospiscare’s system includes intelligent monitoring software that provides real-time data on voltage levels, energy performance, and carbon savings.

Commercial’s solution is backed by a 15-year manufacturer’s warranty and includes 24/7 remote monitoring. This also includes a physical inspection at 30 months, and a three-year service and maintenance plan. The technology ensures continuous performance, with guaranteed savings which are covered by reimbursement protection. This means that if the forecasted results are not achieved, Commercial will reimburse the difference to ensure that the agreed upon ROI is met.

Support through reductions

“At Hospiscare, sustainability goes hand in hand with our responsibility to the community,” said Sharon Ewart, Estates Manager at Hospiscare.

“Working with Commercial has allowed us to improve our energy efficiency. We have reduced costs, and strengthened our environmental impact in a way that directly supports the care we provide.”

The project forms part of Hospiscare’s broader commitment to sustainability and aligns with national net-zero goals. Voltage optimisation complements the charity’s long-term energy reduction plans and ensures compliance with the UK’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS). The charity was able to invest in this system using funds from the Department of Health and Social Care’s capital improvement grant.

Beyond the environmental and financial benefits, the project also generates £16,985 in social value. This figure is measured in positive community, environmental, and economic outcomes for every £1 spent with Commercial.

Commercial, a carbon-neutral business since 2006, has been leading sustainability innovation for over 16 years. The company’s integrated solutions, which include solar PV, electric vehicle charging, power reduction, and carbon reporting, help organisations accelerate their journey to net-zero.
