Carbon Offsetting Catalogue
Carbon: Neutral
Ecologically: Positive
When it comes to offsetting the carbon footprint we create, we aim to be ambitious.
Sustainability isn’t a box ticking exercise for us, it’s something we aspire to because we are passionate about minimising the impact our operations have on our planet.
Commercial has been carbon neutral for more than a decade and we have ambitious plans to be carbon net-zero by 2028, so reducing our carbon footprint is at the heart of what we do.
By its very meaning offsetting suggests covering up something and while there is a desire to counter the carbon emissions we produce, there is good to come from the offsetting work we do.
We produce a catalogue each year; printed on paper, which comes from trees – and we understand that some could think us hypocritical for preaching sustainability when we use natural resource.
Working with our customers we remain committed to reducing the number of catalogues we produce each year and we will continue to do so.
However, for the small amount that are still created, we choose to offset by working with our partners Antalis and their tree-planting programme.
But that is just one example.
Our aim to be a carbon net zero company sees us commit to working with science and suppliers and seek to go further, do more and be ambitious.
It's why we have joined the Science Based Target Initiative's commitment to reduce our emissions in line with a commitment to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees.
It is why we have committed to being carbon net-zero by 2028.
Our belief is that if you’re going to do something, you should do the most you can.
Each year, we receive an independently-audited carbon footprint report and we work alongside trusted partners for offsetting projects.
All of the projects we partner with are audited by The Gold Standard - the global model for climate and development interventions – because they have the greatest possible positive impact.
This year, we are working alongside three projects in Central and South America to offset our carbon footprint, all of which go beyond simply sequestering or synching carbon emissions.
At the Acre Amazonian Rainforest REDD+ portfolio in Brazil, we work to grant land tenure and agricultural training to prevent deforestation in 105,000 hectares of precious rainforest.
The project works with the local communities helping to protect a precious source of positive biodiversity, encouraging alternative models of economic development.
A similar set of desires encapsulates our work with the Teak Afforestation and Mangrove Planting Projects in the Mexican states of Chiapas, Nayarit and Tabasco.
Teak is fire and pest resistant and requires no irrigation to grow. The teak forests provide carbon emission sequestration as well as employment for the local population.
In the mangroves of Mexico we have committed to planting 1,000 seedlings to help protect and grow a vital source of biodiversity and one of our planet’s most precious ecosystems.
Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees that sequester four-times the amount of carbon from the atmosphere and increase the oxygenation of the vital ecosystems in our oceans.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Commercial. Our Commercial by Nature ethos will always drive us to cut emissions where we can and do even more to protect our planet.
Our aim to be a carbon neutral company sees us commit to working with science and suppliers and seek to go further, do more and be ambitious with our offsetting. Our belief is that if you’re going to do something, you should do the most you can.
